In times like these… we all need a Shepherd These are challenging days across Native North America and throughout the world. For many First Nations and Native American communities, the prospect of contracting Covid-19 is frightening. Underlying health conditions put many Native people at greater risk with this coronavirus. Tribal leaders are working hard to protect their communities and we’re grateful. The uncertainty of life is very apparent in times like these… and so is the shadow of death. So where do we turn… where do we find hope when things are so difficult? Soapy Dollar, Mescalero Apache and host of The Storyteller radio program points us to where he has found it, and where you can too.  Listen as he shares his own personal story, what he learned about sheep in his youth, and what we all can learn from Psalm 23… an ancient song written by a good shepherd. Fred put his trust in Jesus Christ in his youth, but soon got mixed up with the wrong crowd. Alcohol became a serious problem. As you’ll hear Fred share – out on the water one day, it nearly cost him his life. But thankfully that’s not where the story ends! What God did that day was amazing. He used this incident to get Fred’s attention and bring Fred back to Himself. If you’ve wandered away from the Lord and wondered if God would have you back, you won’t want to miss this story. God, I don’t want to live like this anymore – The Story of Chug Garreau (Lakota)

Chug grew up on the reservation in the ranch and rodeo life.  He also grew up with alcohol which caused a lot of problems in his home, and eventually, in his own life.  He was only a junior in high school when he left home after a fight with his dad.  But that didn’t fix his problems.  In fact, they were really just beginning.  Years past and his troubles grew worse.  As time went on Chug could see that his rebellion and addictions were bringing him down… and that it was taking a toll on his young family.  The pain and shame of his actions – it was all catching up with him and he wanted to find a way out.  His wife discovered it first, and then he too found the way… the only way.  It was through Jesus Christ.

From Gang enforcer to Gospel messenger – The testimony of Thomas Ranville (Metis)

Thomas grew up with a lot of alcohol and violence.  He reasoned that jail was a way for him to escape home and so he ended up in the Manitoba Youth Center.  Because he was a good fighter one of the workers they encouraged him to take up boxing.  It became a way to vent his anger, and he became very good at it.  He eventually became a gang enforcer where violence was his trade.  But somewhere along the way, God began to get his attention.  Finally, reeling from one the darkest nights of his life, as he was cleaning up the blood in his clubhouse, Thomas decided to follow Jesus Christ… and he’s never been the same.  Now he shares with gang members, and whoever else will listen, the new life that he’s found in Christ.  His message is powerful because he’s living proof that Jesus saves!
